This is my best friend, Guinness.

Guinness got me through some rather dark, rough times in my life. Depression is a nasty disease. Most people can’t get through it alone and I was no exception.

I adopted Guinness (or he adopted me) in the Winter of 2005. He showed up at my work, hung around for about a week, and eventually came home with me to live. He lived with me at my parents’ house for a couple of years. We lived together at my apartment for 7 years. He came with me to my first house before ending up with me at my current home with my family. He stood by me through multiple girlfriends, multiple jobs. He was with me when I started my family.

He was my best friend. I’ve got humans I consider to be my best friend. I’ve got a dog I consider to be my best friend. I’ve got a fiance I consider to be my best friend. But this cat. This CAT! was the best creature I’ve ever had in my life. And that’s saying a lot because I have some amazing creatures in my life.

Guinness passed away in the Summer of 2018. We found him under the neighbor’s tree on a bright, beautiful Saturday morning. I’m sure he died knowing that he served his purpose in life, doing all that he could to see that I was finally happy and had finally found the family I had yearned for, for so long.

R.I.P. Guinness. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
